Why did I start MFBJ?

Let me take you on a journey that many of us can relate to – the struggle with overwhelming debt and the never-ending cycle of spending too much on food. It all began when I found myself drowning in six figures of debt, courtesy of student loans and car payments shared with my partner. Despite both of us having decent salaries, we were barely making ends meet.

The breaking point came when I decided to take control of my financial destiny with a resolution: paying off a substantial chunk of debt in a reasonable time frame. The first step on this journey was to track our monthly spending, and the numbers were staggering. We were shelling out a significant amount every month on groceries and takeout. Our food and dining expenses for our family of three were through the roof. It was clear that we needed a change.

That’s when My Food Budget Journey (MFBJ) was born. I embarked on this mission to document my path, sharing insights, tips, and tricks that I learned along the way to cut down our food costs.

Fast forward to the present – we surpassed our debt payoff goal by eliminating a significant amount of debt. We managed to rein in our food expenses significantly, resulting in substantial savings. While I believe we can go even lower, I’m thrilled with the progress we’ve achieved so far.
